Create/Connect is run by the Creativity, Community and Resilience research team. In the project, trans and gender diverse young people, youth organisations and researchers work together to explore how community belonging supports young people’s wellbeing, and how we use our creativity to build collective resilience when facing societal challenges.

Create/Connect explores the richness of trans and gender diverse young people’s lifeworlds, with focus on how young people connect with communities of belonging.

Create/Connect aims to better understand the supportive characteristics of trans and gender diverse young people’s social worlds which enable them to thrive, and identify areas of need to inform the development of future service provision.

Create/Connect supports the sharing of knowledge from trans and gender diverse young people that captures and communicates their needs and visions for the future.

Create/Connect seeks to empower trans and gender diverse youth to speak back to academic and public discourses on trans and gender diverse lives by focusing on vitality, resilience and creativity.

Create/Connect will produce, with partner organisations, research which embeds equity, diversity, intersectionality, inclusion, and anti-oppressive values in practice.

Funding and ethics information

The research is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and reviewed by the University of Southampton’s Research Ethics Committee.
